Terms of Service

By downloading or using Dictaste, creating an account on our website, or participating in our affiliate program, you agree to these Terms.

The product

Dictaste is desktop software for macOS and Windows that provides system-wide dictation, optional AI text polish, highlight-to-speak, and related features. Free, Developer (GitHub star + bring-your-own LLM), Pro, and Pro Plus features are described on our pricing and developer pages and may change with notice. Feature parity may differ by platform (for example, Mac notarized builds vs Windows portable previews).

License

We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use the app on computers you own or control (macOS and/or Windows builds we distribute). You may not reverse engineer (except where law prohibits this restriction), resell, or abuse the service (including scraping, shared license keys beyond your household/seats, or automated abuse of managed polish).

Plans & limits

Free managed polish includes a daily word allowance. Developer plan polish requires your own LLM API key and does not consume our managed polish pool. Pro and Pro Plus include monthly managed polish allowances as shown at purchase. Limits reset on the schedule stated on the site (daily or monthly UTC). Unused allowance does not roll over unless we say otherwise.

Subscriptions

Paid plans are billed via Stripe on a monthly or yearly basis until canceled. You can manage or cancel in the billing portal from your dashboard. Taxes may apply based on your location.

Refunds

If you are unsatisfied with your first Pro or Pro Plus purchase, contact us via GitHub Issues within 14 days of the charge for a refund request. Abuse of refunds may result in denial of future refunds.

Affiliate program

Affiliates earn a commission on qualifying paid subscriptions attributed to their referral link, at the rate published on the affiliate page (currently 30%). We may withhold, reverse, or deny commissions for fraud, self-referral abuse, chargebacks, or policy violations. Payouts are subject to a minimum balance and identity/tax requirements we specify. Commission rates and program terms may change prospectively.

Acceptable use

You are responsible for content you dictate and for complying with laws and third-party app policies. Do not use Dictaste to violate privacy, commit fraud, generate illegal content, or attack systems. Do not attempt to bypass usage limits or license checks.

Third-party services

Auth (Clerk), payments (Stripe), model providers (e.g. NVIDIA, OpenAI), Apple frameworks (macOS), and platform speech/TTS APIs (including Windows system voices and browser Web Speech) are third-party services governed by their own terms. Your use of BYO API keys is solely between you and that provider.

Disclaimer

The software is provided “as is.” Dictation and AI polish may make mistakes. We do not warrant uninterrupted or error-free operation. To the maximum extent permitted by law, our liability is limited to the amounts you paid us in the 3 months before the claim.

Changes

We may update these Terms. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance. Material changes will be indicated by updating the date above.
